Difficulty Now or Disaster Later

Spirit shares His understanding of the timeless wisdom
expressed within the I Ching hexagram 3 – Difficulty.

Difficulty follows The Receptive (2) in the order of the
hexagrams and merges with Immaturity (4).

Water is over Thunder. Both are active yang energies.
Together, in this situation, they act as a thunder storm
where water pours and thunder roars.

It would be a difficulty for anyone outdoors in such
weather.

Yes, unless they are prepared.

How can we prepare for difficulties before we are aware …

Awareness is a prerequisite to preparedness.

But, a thunderstorm is only one of possibly
countless difficult situations we may have to
suddenly face. We surely can’t be aware of
them all before they appear.

Where do they appear from?

Sometimes, they seem to come from nowhere.

Nothing comes from nowhere.

That sounds like the words of a song,
“Nothing comes from nothing…”

Words of truth.

So, difficuties all come from somewhere?

Not somewhere, alone.

Then, from previously existing situations?

Yes.

Then, how to respond?

To what?

Difficulties.

Preparation.

How to prepare for unexpected situations?

Why are they unexpected?

How can they be expected?

Awareness.

Awareness of what?

Awareness of the present situation and how
it developed, and the path it has taken
to where it now is.

And visualize that same path moving forward
toward the horizon?

Yes.

That sounds like work.

A little difficulty now may prevent disaster
later, or at least prepare for it.

Is there an easier option?

No, at least not for you.

Higher Values Create Their Own Expression

Spirit explains I Ching 22 – Adornment

Mountain above and Fire below.

Society is as a fire that brings people
together; first, for survival and then
for other mutually beneficial purposes,
beyond, but never excluding survival.

Culture is as a volcanic mountain
that can only develop, as an adornment,
around a more-or-less stable society.

Culture cannot develop without
generally accepted social rules of relating
to different people in different ways.

A teacher is not a cook or a bus driver.

That’s curious that you would choose
a cook and a bus driver
to distinguish yourself
as other than.

Why?

A cook prepares food for eating and
a bus driver takes one to his or her
chosen destination.

Yes.

But, you do neither.

That is correct.

You seem to neither prepare food
nor offer transportation. Perhaps
the spiritual teachings you share,
after I struggle to digest them
and walk the path they point to,
are as adornments of sacred wisdom.

Yes.

But, I might understand what you say
in a way that differs from others.

Relate what I share with
your lived experience.

But, different people have
different lived experiences.

Yes and no.

How so?

Our individual lived experiences
are as adornments on the form
within which our shared intelligence
feels and thinks.

Then there is a finite variety
of emotions and thoughts
that we each share?

Yes, but there is an infinite variety
of quality of thought and emotion.

Where does spiritual development
come into all this.

All this?

Our shared thoughts and emotions
of infinite qualities.

Spirituality is in the personal
development of higher qualities
of thought and emotion.

What about action?

What about it?

How do we express higher qualities
of thought and emotion?

How do we choose the form or focus
of our expression of higher values?

Values?

Higher thoughts are values.

Then, how do we choose to express them.

They choose their own expression.

As do lower levels of thought and emotion?

Yes.

I Ching 36 – Damage to Illumination

Today’s I Ching – 36 – Damage to Illumination

Earth above, Fire below.

Damage follows Advance in the Order of the Hexagrams.

Spirit explains:

Advance expresses progress. Fire is above the earth and can move freely.

This is not the case with Damage to Illumination, where Fire is below the earth, with it’s light and heat constrained, contained. This can appear to damage our sense of freedom.

What now?

To everything there is a season – the ancient wise people knew this truth.

Accept what is but prepare to move forward when opportunity permits.

I Ching 41 – Reduce

Today’s I Ching – 41 – Reduce

Mountain above, Lake below

Reduce follows Solution in the order of the Hexagrams.

Spirit explains: Solution is a peak experience.

Then we sink into a mood of

Self-satisfaction, forgetting,

At least for the moment,

Awareness of the Law of Change.

Nothing lasts. Solutions

To one problem are

Necessarily followed by

New challenges, designed to

Test our capacities and

Prepare us for…

I interrupt, sensing His message for me,

No time out?

Not yet.
