The Way of Arrogance

A Spirit Teacher shares his understanding of
the I Ching Hexagram 26 – Great Accumulation,
with me and whomever else cares to listen.

Great Accumulation follows No Error (25)
and moves toward Nourishment (27).
Mountain is over Heaven.

Nothing is higher than Heaven, and yet,
in this instance, Mountain claims to be.

Can this express challenge to authority?

Yes.

How could such a situation develop from
No Error?

The pendulum has swung to the opposite
extreme.

Mountain is out of line?

In the eyes of Heaven, yes.

And Heaven is forever.

Forever what?

Not what, but in terms of time.

There is no time.

Then, what is the meaning?

When?

Now.

Nothing comes from nothing.

Then, No Error and Great Accumulation
can be seen as opposite extremes?

Of what?

Arrogance?

Yes.

How does this situation lead toward
Nourishment?

Awareness is as nourishment.

Awareness of the Middle Way?

Yes.

Cause and Effect are Interactive

Spirit’s I Ching Way

50 – The Cauldron

Fire over Wind. Yin and Yin interacting. Each is receptive to the other, at least in this situation.

The energies of fire and wind, in their extreme forms, can create destruction on their own. Together, they could bring disaster. Mental energies are no different than those of nature, in this respect.
But, a gentle fire and a controlled movement of air can create welcomed warmth, boil water, or heat food.

A cauldron was a large kettle hung over a fire before it was replaced with modern appliances and more controllable sources of heat.
However, the timeless realities exist even in a so-called modern world. The transfer of energy still requires movement and interaction between cause and effect.

What are you saying to me?

Who is what?

Perhaps there is a two-way interaction.

Yes.

Spirit’s I Ching 2 – The Receptive

Spirit explains:

Earth above Earth.

The Receptive follows The Creative (Heaven above Heaven)

The Receptive is Yin over Yin, the extreme of Yin, or traditional

Female, or emotional energy system. The Creative is Yang over

Yang, the extreme of Yang, or traditional masculine, or

Intellectual energy system.

Yang and Yin represent the major energy forces in Life. Neither

Are known for stability. They are each restless and eager to

Express their own qualities, sometimes in harmony with each

Other; sometimes not. But, like all else in Life, and in

Individual lives, they each are interconnected with the other.

Sooner or later, they must learn to co-exist, without denying

Their own unique essence.

The Creative and The Receptive each have unlimited potential,

Both positive and negative. Intellect and emotion both require

Self-awareness and self-discipline, and acceptance of the other,

In order to co-create anything, and nothing is created that is not

A co-creation of both energies.

So it is with individual people. We not only each contain both

Yin and Yang energies within us, but we each contain a unique

Blend of emotional and intellectual energies, seldom in equal

Quantities or qualities.

Self-awareness requires that we meditate on these inner energies

To learn to understand how they relate to each other, and how that

Relationship affects our ability to live a meaningful life.

How can accepting a dysfunctional relationship between

Our inner energies change anything?

We are that dysfunctional relationship and, if it is to be

Changed, only we can do it.

How?

Dialogue, to begin with.

How can talking about our problems solve anything?

Dialogue is not only talking. It also requires listening, and

Commitment to understanding the other.

Respect?

Yes.

Spirit explains I Ching 17 – Following

Following follows Delight.

We choose what and whom we follow, if we follow,

And we do, if only our own Way.

Delight suggests extreme pleasure; a light,

Personal pleasure, without much thought as to

Where it is leading us.

What’s wrong with pleasure?

Nothing, unless it becomes a Way of Life.

And then we’re doomed?

Yes.
